The Lord Mayor to-day presided at ameeting of the Waratah second searchcommittee. He said, that the commit-tee had paid £2,500 to the owners ofthe Wakefield in London, and £3,000to the owners' local representatives. There was £2,076 10s. in the bank totheir credit of the fund, which was about£838 less than the amount claimed bythe owners to be still due to them. Thecommittee, however, disputed some ofthe items in the owners' statement of claim.

It was decided that the committee should offer the owners £2.076 as fullsettlement of their claim. Failing theacceptance of that offer, a sub-committee was formed for the purpose ofgoing thoroughly into the claim made, with the assistance of the Crown Solicitor.
