The Sydney Morning Herald (NSW) Monday 7 March, 1910 THE WARATAH.
MOSSEL BAY WRECKAGE.
SUPPOSITION NOT BELIEVED.
LONDON, March 4.
Messrs. W. Lund and Sons, owners of thesteamer Waratah, do not place anycredence in the report of the supposedwreckage of the steamer Waratah washedup at Mossel Bay, since their Capetownagents have not notified them as arrangedthey should when any evidence of the fateof the Waratah was discovered. The wording of this report is very revealing. The Lunds' immediate reaction to the discovery and other matters relating to the disappearance of the Waratah, was one of avoidance, denial if you will. If indeed the cushion and hatchway were returned to the Lunds and builders for verification, no reports of this vital investigation appeared either in the press or at the Inquiry.
