CHARRED TIMBER.

MISSING WARATAH.
CHARRED TIMBER WASHED
ASHORE.
SOUTH AFRICAN MYSTERY.
LONDON, Nov. 6.
The report that a quantity of charred andbroken decking and a deck hatch had beenwashed ashore at Port Alfred, 400 milessouth west of Durban, was  received in London on Friday. The statement appearedto corroborate the story of the captain ofthe steamer Harlow that a vessel, possiblythe missing steamer Waratah, had beenseen to explode off Cape Hermes, betweenDurban and East London, on July 27.
This remains a fascinating possible link with the Waratah. Surely it was not difficult to establish the dimensions of the deck hatch and compare with the Waratah's deck hatches? I suppose this, like so much else connected with the Waratah, remains unresolved.
