NEARLY MISSED THE STEAMER.
The Argus, 11 August, 1909.
Mr. A. Allen, chief mate of the steamer
Karori, which has been at Port Adelaide
during the past week or so, is deeply con-
cerned about the disappearance of the
Waratah, his wife and two children being
among the passengers. They joined the
steamer at Sydney. Both at Sydney and
Port Adelaide they nearly missed the
steamer. The Karori sailed for Tasmania
on Tuesday afternoon.
Miss Helen Jones, who is included in the
list of Adelaide passengers of the missing
steamer Waratah, is the daughter of Mr.
E. Jones, late manager of the Commercial
Bank at Adelaide. Miss Jones left Ade
with the intention of proceeding to
London to attend the diamond wedding of
her grandparents, which will take place on
August 28. The Waratah was due to reach
London on August 23.
